Cozy Fall Mantel

Happy Thursday friends! It’s a big day around here. My third baby turns 16 and takes his test to get his license this morning. Praying he passes!! He’s a pretty good driver, so I really have no doubt. I have mixed feelings about all of this. I’m happy to be doing less toting around of him AND his brother (they have very similar schedules), but I’m terrified when I think about him being out their on his own among all the other crazy drivers.¬† ūüėĮ But, anywho!! That’s what it’s all about mamas. They grow up and do new things and we learn to pray harder and harder with every passing year.
Wow, I didn’t mean to chat for that long, but there ya go! Today I’m sharing a few more shots of our fall mantel, and some more details. I’ve really started to settle into what I like design wise as of late. It’s somewhat eclectic, but not. Ha! Some might say modern farmhouse, others might say cozy minimalist. Maybe a combo of those. I’m definitely in a less is more phase, and I do like some history thrown in, but I also like a little bit of modern thrown in as well. Whatever you want to call it, it makes sense to me and I like it, and that’s all that matters!! So, for what it is, here is my version of a cozy fall mantel.

Being Thankful

What a wonderful time of year!!¬† I’ve shared with you guys before how much I enjoy counting my blessings.¬† Looking back through the past and recounting my steps and God’s hand.¬† But, until recently I’ve never really been what I would call a grateful person.¬† I complain a lot (about nothing).¬† I whine (about a lot of things).¬† Why do I do this?¬† Disposition? {Possibly}¬† Circumstances?¬†{No – I know better}¬† Habit?¬† {I think so}¬† How sad is it that my habit is to be grumpy.
A couple of weeks ago I started reading a book called “One Thousands Gifts” by Ann Voskamp{because I saw it in a post by The Nester whom I adore :)}¬† A friend challenged¬†Ann, the author, ¬†to make an actual written list of one thousand things she was thankful for.¬† She took the challenge and began journaling.¬† Just reading about the way her senses seemed to be heightened to even the “little” God moments that surrounded her throughout the day has inspired me.¬† I find myself noticing the positive side of even the most inconvenient moments.¬† And man oh man has it changed my attitude.¬† Isn’t it amazing the effect gratitude has on our hearts?¬† I am working on making thankfulness my habit, because truthfully I have more things to be thankful for than I have things to complain about.
Today I am most thankful for a Savior who takes me just as I am.  Who chooses to use me in my imperfection.  Who hears me when I call.  May I always be mindful of You.
I showed you at the beginning of the month our bare Thankful Tree.  Here is an update

Isn’t it beautiful!?!¬† Look at all those leaves!!¬† There are all sorts of things¬†that we have been thankful for this month¬†and it has been great fun to¬†document¬†some of them in writing.¬† We actually used all the leaves!!¬† Next year I may have to make twice as many leaves because we are truly blessed, blessed, blessed!!
Wishing you and your family a blessing-filled Thanksgiving!!  Turkey and family fun to be had!!

It’s All About Orange

Well, if you were hoping to see the finished product of our entryway project you will have to check back in a couple of days.¬† Because we are amateur DIYer’s we of course had a hiccup that delayed things a bit, and then of course life and family fun took precedent over finishing :).

But, I wanted to share some fun times we had this weekend.¬† First up was what we OSU (Oklahoma State University)¬†alumni call “Walk Around”.¬† Fancy name huh?¬† Yes, well this is a homecoming tradition at OSU.¬† Rather than floats the fraternities and sororities create “house decs” and on Friday night before the homecoming game, they shut down the streets around the house and EVERYONE comes out to “walk around” and check them out.¬† It is quite a scene!!¬† Here is a glimpse…

It is a sea of orange everywhere you look!!¬† LOVE!!¬† You see we’re not¬†crazy, my husband and I both graduated from OSU and we have raised all our kids to love OSU and yes orange!!
Because orange truly is the happiest color ūüôā

We spent Saturday watching the game, carving pumpkins, and recovering from our Friday night fun.

The biggins’ have yet to carve their pumpkins…I hope they don’t think they’re too big for that…
Here is the finished products all lit up.

¬†I love October…it’s the one month of the year when everyone seems to like orange ūüôā
I leave you with a collage of pics from the walk around.¬† It’s amazing what they can create with chicken wire and tissue paper.
Blessings to you and…Orange!!
