Light and Bright Family Room

Hey friends! I’ve been scheming in my head again. And this time about our family room. You know I realized that we have been updating this house one DIY project at a time for three years or so now. I kind of think I’ve forgotten how to just decorate a space. Hahaha 😆 But, now that most of the DIY projects are done I need to turn my attention to some overdue decorating updates. And, I’m starting with our family room.

Blue and White Spring Tablescape

If you’ve been around here for even a little while then you know I love navy! So, this table might be my favorite!! I’ll be honest, I was struggling coming up with inspiration. I had been to Hobby Lobby, Target, TJMaxx, Micheals, searching for some sort of spring inspiration to hit me, but it just wasn’t. I finally remembered I had this silver trophy vase I had bought at Vintage Market Days last year that I have been dying to use. That was a start at least. I opened my craft storage closet looking for fabric. I had actually purchased some light purple daises while at Walmart the day before. So, I started to look at my lavender fabric stash. Then I spotted the navy gingham I had left over from the euro shams I made for our master bedroom. And then the creative wheel finally started to turn! If I had gone the lavender route, I would have had to make 3 more napkins, but navy – I had plenty of those! Win, win! (and besides I went the lavender route last year haha)

Plate Walls, Still Cool or Old School??

Hey there everybody! I have been staring at this wall in our breakfast room for weeks now. Well, I mean I’ve been doing other things besides staring at this wall, but it has been getting a lot of my attention. 🙂  Mostly, it’s been getting the side eye from me. I’m just kind of tired of the gallery wall. I love seeing the faces of our family everyday, but to be honest, they don’t even look like that anymore! Those pics are four years old. I have new pictures, but I just think I’m ready for something different.

Winter White Mantel

I was sitting on the couch taking a break yesterday and I was staring at my half empty mantel. Does anyone else leave empty spaces around the house after Christmas?? I took the Christmas decorations down, but I never put anything back up in their place. I do this quite often actually after Christmas. Mostly because I’m not sure what needs to go in it’s place. Often times I’m bored with what was there before. So, I just leave things empty. Give the house room to breathe for a while. And give my mind space to imagine. But, yesterday, it needed something. So, I shopped the house, and gathered together some winter looking items and there you have it!

Cozied Up Master Bedroom For Winter

Are the temps getting cooler where you are?? We were forced to turn on the heat about a week ago because we had a night with temps below freezing. When it gets cooler outside, I always feel like getting cozy. That means pulling out all the cozy sweaters, cozy bedding, soft blankets, and pillows. The softer and the fluffier the better! Am I right? I had been on the lookout for a new comforter for our bed. I only had a few requirements: it needed to match our current color scheme – navy blue and white/cream/beige, it needed to be 100% cotton, and it needed to not break the budget. TJ Maxx to the rescue!! And it’s so fluffy!! Not too warm, and not too light. Perfect!
