Several months ago I talked about changing the color of our front door. And then, I never got around to it. But, when we decided to paint the trim…finally, I decided it was time. I went back and forth for a long time on what color to go with. However, I couldn’t get this image out of my head. I know, I know, it’s a dollhouse, but when I saw it I knew that I had to have that green door. (side note: not a color I had in the running before, 😆 ) So, here ya go!!
Isn’t it great?? And, since I was painting the door, I decided to also add a few more things to dress it up a bit.

gingham rug (not on Hobby Lobby’s website so check in store) / hey y’all mat
I finally jumped on the rug layering band wagon, and I love it! Why did I wait so long? (well probably because the rug I wanted sold out and all the other rugs like it were more than I wanted to spend – Hobby Lobby to the rescue!)
The big polka-dotted G I’ve had for a while. Also from Hobby Lobby (but on clearance from a year ago or so – sorry).
The glider bench was a mother’s day gift from my kiddos years ago, and it is one of my favorite things. It’s starting to show a little wear, but I still love it.
I’ve had a cute welcome sign hanging above it for a long time, but when I painted the door, the turquoise sign no longer matched. I searched, and searched for a simple, black and white welcome sign, and believe it or not I couldn’t find what I wanted. So…I made my own.
I bought the piece of wood unfinished for $5, painted it with chalkboard paint, and used a chalk marker to write on it. Easy peasy!
I loved the blue door, but it was looking a little shabby so I was going to have to paint it one way or the other, and sometimes I just like a change! Here is a side by side by side progression of the front porch makeover.
Here’s a pic with the glass screen door propped open. It was so sunny when I was photographing I could not get a pic that didn’t have a glare. I just LOVE the color!
If you’re curious, I used this paint because I already had some – leftover from another project – and I loved the color. I would probably not use this kind of paint for this project again. It wasn’t bad, it just took several coats – like three all over and I still had to touch up in places. So, two jars. It worked great on the previous project, but for some reason it just didn’t do a good job covering on this one.
It makes me happy to walk up to my porch everyday, and that makes every bit of work worth it! Your house should make YOU happy friends!! Have a blessed day!!
