Hello there! I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day!! Mine was a very do-nothing weekend filled with lots of love and sweetness from my kiddos, a dinner out and some precious gifts.
Today I’d like to share with you my easy-peasy DIY garden flag that you saw in this post.
But first, If you follow me on instagram (and you should ;)) you may have seen this pic.
Yes, at Christmas, when my big kid was home I coerced them into re-doing one of my favorite photos of them when they were little. Truth be told the second one was just as hard to accomplish as the first one – you know it’s hard to get several people to cooperate in a photo!!
But, it’s precious all the same. Enjoy your little ones mama – they don’t stay that way! 🙂
Okay, enough of that. Back to the DIY. This project was two of my favorite things – easy and free. I went to my fabric stash and grabbed a piece of my go-to dropcloth canvas.
I measured and cut it to size. Hemmed all sides and made a pocket at the top to hang from the stand.
I knew I wanted our letter on there so I started with that. I used a technique I have used before to stencil on fabric – clear contact paper.
I printed out the letter I wanted and then traced it to the contact paper. Cut out with a craft knife and adhere to the fabric.
You should be careful of the edges as you paint and paint away from the paper edges rather than toward. Take your time and get a good coat on, then peel off your stencil. And ta-da!!
I kind of had a polka-dot them going on with the doormat and the door hanger, so I decided to stick with that. I pulled some bright colors of paint from my stash and these great foam dotters.
In just a few minutes, I had this!!
It’s cute and fun and fills in the space where nothing grows! 🙂 We have had some crazy amounts of rain in the past week so the flag went inside. I plan to try scotch guarding it to see if that will help with the paint staying put if it gets wet. But, even if it doesn’t work out, it was free, sooo, yeah. Thanks for stopping by!!
