Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Throw Pillows

I love throw pillows just about as much as any woman. They just add so much to the feel of a room. However, for years we had maybe one or two in our home. Why? Mostly because I didn’t want to spend the money on them. The less expensive pillows were filled with stuff (polyester fiber-fil) that wouldn’t hold up for more than a year. And, the better pillows that were feather-filled were too expensive for our budget. So…no pillows.

The one thing I would love to pass on to you from 2015 is two-fold: don’t be afraid to try a DIY – you never know if you can until you try!! And, don’t let budget constraints keep you from making your house a home – look at it as a challenge to be creative!!

My goal here at frazzled JOY is to demonstrate how both of these things are possible! Wishing you and yours a happy new year!!

Bathroom Makeover – One Room Challenge Reveal

It’s done! It’s wonderful! And I LOVE it!!
Lots of painting happened in this room, lots of DIY’s, and lots of bargain shopping. I shared with you my budget last week and in the end I came in just over $300!! I love being able to get the look I want for less!

If you need a little reminder, here is the before

And here was my inspiration board

I am so excited to share the finished product, so I’m going to let the pictures do most of the talking!! There’s a lot, but I know that’s what you want, so here ya go!!

I made the shower curtain out of a dropcloth, some leftover denim chambray from my son’s room makeover, and ribbon for a little extra somethin’.

The mirror frame was a DIY – just inexpensive white wood stained in dark walnut. The new light fixture is from IKEA.

The galvanized metal accessories give a little bit of a rustic feel along with the wood. The planter bucket is from Hobby Lobby and the other container is from a local boutique.

The floating shelves are made with IKEA shelf brackets and again inexpensive stained white wood.

The vanity got new life with some leftover navy blue paint from my paint stash, and some spray paint for the pulls.

I love the spa, rustic coastal feel, and it just might be my new favorite room instead of my least favorite! Yay for the One Room Challenge!!
Please make sure you check out all the designer reveals, and all my fellow guest participants who have been sweating this deadline with me!

Now I need to start thinking about the holidays! Ack! But, at least I now have a nice bathroom for my guests when they stop by!!

Thanks so much for following this journey with me! If you need to catch up:

Bathroom Update Inspiration – One Room Challenge Week 1

So, here I go! Jumping in with Linda and the One Room Challenge again

I was so happy with the results from the last time, that I thought I would try again with a very neglected room – our second bathroom.

This is the bathroom that is shared by all (4) of our kids and is used by guests. Yikes is right! Maybe now you can understand why it’s been neglected.

This bathroom really needs a head to toe renovation, but that just hasn’t made it to the top of the budget list as of yet. So, a few months back I was reading The Nester’s post on doing an in-between, good-enough update, and I said to myself “yes” this is what I need to do. Throw out the all or nothing attitude again and just make it better…without spending too much $$$. Here is an idea of the direction I am heading.

And, here are a few before pics that I snapped very quickly one morning. I didn’t even bother tidying up for y’all – just keepin it real friends. 😉

The shower curtain is one I bought and modified thinking ahead to what I thought I wanted in this space, as is the rug. Now, I’m probably taking the curtain in a different direction, but the rug might stay.

I love the bright and peaceful look of these two.

Since the walls will be more toned down

I may do something fun with the vanity.

And the mirror will be getting framed. Not sure yet if I will go dark wood like I did in our master bath, or if I will go with white in here.

Then I will be looking for some creative and cute ways to store the necessities.

I am looking forward to having this room complete and ready for guests, and actually the kids are excited to have something new also!!

In The Quiet

Good morning friends. I am writing to you from the quiet.

My house was still bustling with activity until today. My college boy is back at school, my others have been back in the groove for a week or so, and this morning, as hubby left for work, I realized that it was just me.

Now, you might think this would make me sad. And, on some levels it does. But, then there is my brain that so welcomes the quiet. In the quiet I can hear my thoughts, the thoughts of The Lord, and things can actually get organized in my head!! It’s a beautiful thing really. I know, I know, I could have this everyday if I could just talk myself into getting up before the sun. But, that just doesn’t work for me since I’m a bit of a night owl. So, I welcome mornings like today.

I have many things to share with you in the coming days. I was hoping to get some things photographed this morning that I have been working on, but the clouds came. I’m thankful for the clouds – it’s been 100 degrees around here the past few days, but clouds do not work for taking pics.

I am working on bringing in a little bit of fall.

I am putting finishing touches on the family room update.

I am working on a couple of tweaks in the kitchen (I’m beginning to wonder if this room will ever be done.)

And, I am scheming plans for our 2nd bathroom (“finally” say the kids).

I still plan to share with you some how-to’s for the patio makeover, and I am working on some great organization projects as well.

These are just a few sneak peeks to hopefully bring you back to see more! 🙂

See why the quiet is so welcome!? There are so many things swimming around in my head right now! One. thing. at. a. time.
