My Top 5 Uses For Vinegar

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! It has been oh so hot here the past few days, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time with family and friends! Yesterday I took some time to rest and recover the house. I don’t know about you, but we are having fun, the last thing I worry about is cleaning up! HA!

About 3 years ago I got tired of spending mega bucks on cleaning supplies and started researching alternatives. Of course with the help of Pinterest I found a ton! I have been making my own laundry soap ever since which I love and a few other homemade cleaners that I swear by.

One of my favorite all-natural cleaning weapons is vinegar. It really has so many uses but today I would like to highlight my 5 favorite.

Get Fit Friday

Okay, so today we are getting personal. Lately I have been making some lifestyle changes (which I mentioned briefly here). I married an athlete. He is always moving, doing something. If he’s not, he’s not happy. So, whether it’s basketball, softball, ping pong, whatever he can fit in he’s doing.
I on the other hand have never been an athlete. I was blessed with amazing metabolism which served me fine until I turned 40…
Over the past 4 years, my weight has continued to rise. Gradual enough that I didn’t notice until the last couple of years. I was doing a great job of ignoring it. But, that wasn’t the only problem. My energy, my mood, my motivation all declined. I chalked it up to hormones and getting older and just went on. This year however, when I went for my check-up and stepped on the scales, I was shocked honestly. And then, the blood work. Some numbers came back not so great. Not horrible, but definitely not ok.
So, all that to say that was my breaking point. I really wanted to HAVE a fit! I was done ignoring my health, and I knew I had to DO something whether I wanted to or not. I wanted to be in control of my health, rather than letting my health control me.

An Organized ‘Junk’ Drawer

We all have them – junk drawers. But, I bet you didn’t know that they don’t necessarily have to be junky!! We all have these random drawers that don’t serve a specific purpose in different places in our home. For me this drawer is in the hallway. There really is no need for a drawer there, but there is one. So, we have utilized it over the years to keep a few tools, batteries, and a few other random things that may otherwise not have a home.

A typical junk drawer

But just like most ‘junk’ drawers, this one got pretty messy over time!

How To Update A Wicker Basket With Stain

Sharing a simple project with you today! Another from our bathroom update. 🙂

Maybe you remember this cute basket corralling some necessities.

I looked and looked and looked for a basket that would fit the top of the toilet, hold a few things, and that was of course cheap.

I finally found something that met my needs at Ross for $5. (pictured here with all my other budget friendly finishing touches for the room)

But, as I started to finish out the room I realized the color was way off. It was just too orange-y. What to do?

On a whim I decided to try applying some stain to the basket (the same stain I used on the mirror frame and the shelves). And what do you know?!? It worked!

I simply brushed on a pretty generous coat of stain. I wanted to give it time to soak into the wicker, so I let it set for 15 minutes or so before I tried to wipe any excess off. It took a couple of days to dry, but the end result was totally worth the wait!

I will say that this basket had a slight plastic-y coating on it, which is probably why it took so long to soak in and to dry. If it were natural wicker, it probably would have been a faster process. Also, if it is more plastic-y than not, this probably won’t work at all. I tested the stain on the bottom of the basket beforehand.

Have a great weekend!!
