This week has been busy. Honestly since school started I can say that every week has been busy. Yes, we are down from 4 kids to 2 but neither one of them are driving yet. We are missing our extra drivers that are away at college. 😉 We really do limit their activities, but between school, church, and their one or extra-curriculars we are just going all the time. We have become very intentional about making time for rest, and that has helped a lot. We are hoping to even fit in a date night this weekend!
Long story short, I don’t have a project to share with you today. So, instead I’m going to share a few random things from this week. Sorry in advance for the iphone pics. 😎
I mentioned that my daughter had a birthday, but I didn’t mention that my hubby also celebrated his birthday! Yes, our daughter was born on hubby’s birthday! Best gift I ever gave him – and one that keeps on giving!! 🙂
There has always been a struggle over whose cake I make on their day. Well, this year they both got what they wanted. My girl got a cheesecake (which I did not make), and hubby got his favorite lemony lemon cake (recipe courtesy of his grandma).
If you know someone who loves lemon, then this cake is a must try. His grandma was a great cook. You know the kind that doesn’t need to use many recipes. I’m not sure if this is original to her or if she found it somewhere, but man o man is it good!! And it’s super easy too which we all love!
Here are the ingredients
Grandma’s Lemony Lemon Cake
1 box lemon cake mix
1 small box lemon pudding mix
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 T lemon juice
Put all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Pour into a 9X13 greased pan and bake at 350 until toothpick comes out clean – usually between 45mins and an hour. The time really depends on your oven.
After you take your cake from the oven, prepare the glaze. Mix together 2-3 cups of powdered sugar and 5-6 T of lemon juice.
Poke holes in your warm cake.
Pour glaze over the top of the cake while still warm.
Spread evenly over the top. And there ya go!
This cake never lasts long in our house! Enjoy!
A couple of months ago our oldest turned 20. And just this weekend our daughter turned 18. 18 and 20? How is that possible?? Seriously it was just yesterday that they came home from the hospital right?
It’s hard not to have all the feelings when these milestones occur. The past 18 years seem like such a blur.
This year has been filled with all the senior things. Ordering cap and gown. Preparing her senior salute for the yearbook. Senior pictures. Applying for college. And soon, all these things will conclude with senior prom (of course), finals, graduation, baccalaureate, senior Sunday at our church, all the final church youth trips for the summer, and the end all – moving to college.
This is not our first time to do this – send a kid to college – but even still, I know it won’t be easy. She is our only daughter. I know the space she will leave behind will be large. And yes, I know it’s not forever, but we will be forever changed.
Changed by her presence, and changed by her absence.
Children are a gift from the Lord…(Psalm 127:3 NLT). I have cherished every moment of these past 18 years, and I look forward to what the next 18+ bring.
Love you sweet daughter of mine!!
All the beautiful senior pics were taken by Caitlin Boswell. If you are in the Oklahoma City area, check her out! She is amazing, sweet, and very talented!
Here we are, almost to the end of September. Where does the time go these days?? Although, I’m actually okay with it because it means I am one month closer to having my boy home for a few days from college. I’m telling you, having him far away for college has been one of the hardest things I have had to do as a parent so far. But, he is loving it and doing well and that blesses my heart immensely!
September is always a time for me to regroup from summer. A time to get the house, and my family back on track and back into a healthy routine. It’s a good time. So, I thought I would share with you a little peak into what’s been going on around him with our little family.
If you follow me on instagram you’ve seen some of these pics.
The temps have dipped down cooling enough here and there and I have happily taken advantage of that by pulling out the boots and sweaters!!
Cooler temps in the evenings also means more walks with my honey – precious quality time.
(I don’t know what’s with the feet pictures??)
Cooler temps also signals my craving for fall foods and snacks! Candy corn is #1 in my book. And, a homemade apple pie just can’t be beat!
Especially when you use grandma’s pie plate ;).
I officially have another teenager in the house! Love him!! Birthday’s call for yummy birthday lunches, complete with old-time vanilla shakes :).
We’ve been watching this kiddo run cross-country for the first time this year and rockin’ it!
Got to see this precious face thanks to the wonderful world of technology. Things like this do make the distance a tad easier.
I am a perpetual piler. I admit it. So, sometimes I have to go through the piles…
Happiest of days was winning this amazing paint sprayer through an instagram contest held by 11 Magnolia Lane and Home Right. It came in the mail this week and I have a long list of things waiting to be sprayed!!
With the state of our world these days it seems hard to hold onto the joy. I read this in my quiet time several days ago and it brought me such comfort. I pray that we never forget that even though things may be unraveling all around us, God will hold us together if we will only hold onto Him.
Praying you have a blessed weekend friends!! Thanks for joining me now and again in my frazzled mess of life!!
Fun things coming to the blog in the near future – stay tuned!
